College Admission Counseling

Help with the admission process that is grounded in powerful performance psychology.

College Admissions Counseling Service Overview

Interview Help

If you experience anxiety during interview situations, college admissions counseling will work on building your confidence.  This will include general public speaking help and specifics like anticipating and practicing the questions admissions, a coach, or an alum ask you. We can reduce the anticipatory anxiety and the stress of the actual interviews,

Essay Prep

The college essay is about capturing something about yourself and portraying it in a way that makes them want you there as a student.  Choosing a topic and then writing about it well is something we’ll work on.  I work closely with a highly regarded proofreader who can make sure the writing is perfect.

Application Preparation

Beyond your essay, your application also captures who you are. It describes your chosen activities and, often, asks short answer questions about them.  I can help you make this powerful and meaningful to the reader.

Choosing the Right Fit

In most cases, you’ll have several schools to choose from. How will you decide which one you want to spend four years at? We will review your choices and decide which one(s) might best suit you.

I also provide academic coaching to ensure your grades are where they need to be for the college of your choice.

College Admissions Counseling FAQ

What is College Admission Consulting?
I offer College Admission Counseling services that are grounded in the tents of Performance Psychology and Cognitive therapy.  Those techniques will be tailored to your needs throughout the entire process.  The goal is to have you present yourself in the most compelling way.
You want admissions to feel that you fit the person they seek. This specialty service can be quite helpful in the process.
How Can College Admissions Counseling Help?

There are three distinct (though related) ways that the College Admission Process can benefit from this approach:

College Admissions Counseling and the Interview

The interview and other contact points with the college during the admission process require the applicant to project clarity, confidence, and a fit for what the university is looking for. Performance Psychology techniques can fully prepare the student. Cognitive therapy can reduce anxiety and stress.

College Admissions Counseling and the Application

The application itself needs to capture who the student is. This includes what they have accomplished and why they are a fit. Performance psychology is quite helpful in helping the student truly get this section to hit home with the reader.

College Admissions Counseling and Your Essays

Your essays need to capture you in a deeper and more meaningful way. The psychology involved is significant and vital. We can make sure that the essay is memorable and important. This is the core of the college admissions help I provide.

What Does the Service Provide

This service uses empirically proven effective methods that are known to help with college and private school admissions.  We will also regularly use information gathered from those conducting these interviews and pass along what they seek.  I offer 24/7 support so that you can get that boost, reminders, and support right before specific occurrences, such as an interview or meeting with a coach.

What I Do Not Provide

I should note that there are three aspects of the college admission process that I do not do:

– As far as your essay, I will help you develop a good idea (unless you already have one) and then provide a first proofread.  However, some people have direct professional experience and expertise in writing. I can refer you to someone in my trusted network.

– When we build your list, we will not prioritize sports ahead of academics.  I know that playing sports in college can increase the enjoyment of the four-year experience and lead to wonderful growth and life lessons. However, I need evidence that you are choosing a school based on academics and sports.

– Also, and related to this, I cannot help with the financial part of the decision-making.  Your parents and you need to have that discussion before I am involved – where can you afford to go, and under what circumstances regarding scholarships and other financing?

What is the goal of college admissions counseling?

The goals of college admissions counseling are threefold: First, I want to help you present your most compelling self to the college admissions departments and everyone involved (coaches, alumni, etc.).  Second, I want you to learn and grow from the process, understanding your hopes, dreams, and challenges.  Then, when you do attend college, you are truly ready.  Finally, I want to help you destress during the process.  This includes learning coping strategies to manage the inevitable anxiety and frustration that you encounter.

What are the results

Results of College Admission Services

I cannot guarantee that you will get into the college that is your top choice.  The college admission process is incredibly competitive and unpredictable.  I can say that I can give you the best chance to present the best application you can.  In doing so, you will represent who you are, what you are capable of, and why they would be proud to have you there.

I can help you reduce your anxiety and stress during the process and perform at your best on tests, interviews, sports ID camps, alumni meetings, etc.  We will work together on building your case, and then, hopefully, you can relax after getting your application in and doing the appropriate follow-up, knowing that you’ve put your best foot forward.
