What Are the Benefits
Benefits of Sports and Performance Psychology
Sports Psychology may be helpful for any student-athlete from middle school through college and beyond. Services can start any time during those years. Sports Psychology is designed to help with sports performance directly, helping athletes achieve peak performance in general and, when possible, “flow” (also known as being “in the zone”) as frequently as possible.
As a result of sports psychology therapy, confidence increases, enjoyment of the sport increases, and other areas of the athlete’s life also improve. In short, effective sports therapy can have wide-ranging positive effects! The following outlines the sports therapy process. As with any therapy, everything is uniquely and individually tailored to each person.
How Does It Work
Sports Psychology Service Delivery
There are several ways that Sports and Performance Psychology services can be delivered:
Individual Sports Psychology
Individual Performance Therapy My sports psychology services use proven theories and techniques in performance psychology. Together we will work toward performance improvement or the achievement of peak performance in your sport.
The results of sports performance psychology should be relatively fast, measurable, and meaningful. We will design a treatment plan that estimates how quickly this progress will happen. You are then in charge of your treatment. It is up to you when you feel you have progressed as far as you wanted.
For some, just a time-limited assessment of what may be getting in the way of you achieving peak performance is all that is needed. I’ll provide an assessment and then design a program around your specific goals. How can you best reach those goals using scientifically proven performance improvement techniques? These assessments are designed to stand independently. They will give you the ideas and suggestions you need to work on the improvements immediately.
Sports Psychology Workshops for Groups
I also provide workshops for coaches, trainers, and sports administrators who want to learn how best to integrate the theory and practice of sports psychology into their work. These workshops are designed to briefly present the science behind sports psychology. They cover specific ways to integrate sports psychology into their work. The goal is that they can then help their players achieve peak performance and flow.
Training for Teams
I can provide training for teams looking to maximize performance individually and collectively. This performance psychology training is designed to help the group achieve peak performance and improve their enjoyment and feeling of accomplishment as a team.
Sports Psychology Services for Coaches
I would be happy to meet with any coach or group of coaches as part of my sports psychology services to teach you how to integrate the principles of peak athletic performance into your work. You will learn how to best connect with, motivate, and respond to athletes. For those coaching a team, we will go over team-building exercises and general ways to bring people together for a common goal. Sometimes, sports psychology services for coaches are delivered due to a particular challenge or obstacle, and other times, they become a part of the coaching routine.

What Does an Online Sports Psychologist Do?
An online sports psychologist like me provides athletes with mental health and performance enhancement services via virtual platforms. The work of an online sports psychologist involves the following key activities:
1. Performance Enhancement: An online sports psychologist helps athletes improve their performance by teaching mental skills such as visualization, focus, goal setting, and relaxation techniques. By working virtually, it allows us to integrate certain apps and other technology to our work with you.
2. Mental Health Support: We address issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and burnout that can affect athletes’ well-being and performance. This is one way an online sports psychologist uniquely qualifies to help the whole athlete.
3. Motivation and Confidence Building: An online sports psychologist helps athletes develop and maintain motivation and confidence, which are crucial for consistent performance.
4. Team Dynamics and Communication: I often work with whole teams or coaches to improve communication, cohesion, and overall team dynamics.
5. Athletic Career Transition: An online sports psychologist supports athletes through transitions such as moving to a higher level of competition, retirement, or dealing with life after sports.
An online sports psychologist delivers their services using various methods, including video calls, phone calls, messaging, and digital resources. This allows them to reach athletes regardless of geographical location and provides flexibility in approach and scheduling.
