Virtual Psychotherapy Service Area

I can provide individual, couples and group therapy and psychological testing virtually in the states shaded green. In most cases, these services can be equally effective and powerful virtually compared to in-person. However, particularly with testing, there are times when seeing someone in person may be a better option. I can refer you to someone in your local area in those cases.

Current Wait Times:

Wait times for vary based on the specific days and times of day you need, but below is a general idea of my current wait times. I update this as much as needed.

Many people wonder whether it’s worth waiting for psychotherapy to find the right match. It’s a balancing act since so many very talented therapists are available.

My suggestion is that the amount of time you should be willing to wait should be related to the specific nature of your concern; if a therapist has a hard-to-find specialty or uses an approach that you think is a perfect fit, you may want to wait longer to start. Of course, the urgency of your needs should also play a role.

My Therapy Philosophy

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has been providing psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, couples, and families for over 20 years. My practice is integrative, meaning that I am trained in a wide variety of techniques that can be combined and alternated to produce measurable, important, and meaningful results. My psychotherapy approach is positive, empathic, and solution-focused. I strongly believe that the results should not be a mystery – it should be clear that it works as you feel more content, develop new insights, reach your goals, and set new ones.

You should take your time to find a therapist who is a good fit for you, and that is why I (and most of my colleagues) offer a consultation to make sure you feel I am a good fit for what you are looking for and what you hope to accomplish. We can also discuss whether psychotherapy is a good fit for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does therapy take?

Therapy is a transformative process that can be life-changing. How long therapy takes depends on the methods we choose, how deep-seated your challenges are, and how high the barriers are to positive change. However, after 4-6 sessions, you should experience significant improvement, and then along the way, you should experience measurable and meaningful change as you go. We’ll work together to find a timeline that works for you.

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

A clinical psychologist has gone through four years of school after college, including two years of part-time closely supervised direct care experience, one year of full-time supervised experience after that, and then another year post-graduation. Then, they have to pass a very intensive and difficult exam to prove they have the knowledge necessary to practice

What’s the best way to find a therapist?

There are many effective ways to find a therapist, and it’s not only okay but actually highly suggested that you be picky! Therapy can really create huge positive changes and the fit with your therapist is vital. Start with word-of-mouth and browse websites like mine. You can also look to platforms like PsychologyToday and ZenCare. Keep in mind that in our field we are not competitive – if you contact me and I’m not the best fit, I’ll work hard to find you someone who is.

How can I tell how qualified a psychologist is?

Given the amount of education and supervised training a psychologist gets, even when they have just graduated, they already have four years of actual practice, and many were in the field before they went to graduate school. That said, experience is valuable, and asking how long they’ve been practicing can help. Also, look for a psychologist who has furthered their credentials postgraduation, such as becoming a National Register Certified.

How would you summarize your approach?

I use what are called third-wave therapies, the latest innovations in some of the more powerful and effective approaches in the field. This includes Cognitive-Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Compassion Focused (CFT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive (MBCT), and Schema-focused therapy. All of it is surrounded in a positive psychology, humanistic approach.

Will virtual therapy work for me

You can find information about virtual therapy throughout my site, particularly in my blog. It boils down to fit. The techniques I use can be equally effective and powerful, and for some even more so, when delivered online. However, some people prefer the in-person experience of therapy and find virtual delivery does not work as well for them. Often, people already know that on a gut level, but if you’re not sure, try whichever approach you feel more comfortable with at first and see how it goes.

Contact Me

I offer a free telephone consultation if you wonder whether my services and psychotherapy approach would be a good fit. I want to hear what you are looking for, and then I’ll tell you how my clinical methods might help and what psychotherapy will be like. There is no obligation; in fact, in our field, we believe that the match is so important that we work hard to ensure you find someone perfect for you as far as clinical approach.
